В России неврология сформировалась как самостоятельная дисциплина только в 1869 году, благодаря усилиям профессора Алексея Кожевникова. До этого она являлась составной частью терапии и психиатрии. Значительный вклад в развитие данного направления знаний внес Иван Павлов. Он был удостоен Нобелевской премии в области медицины и физиологии 1904 года.

Первые шаги курской неврологии связаны с образованием Курской губернской народной больницы на улице Садовой. Из истории Курского края известно, что в 1865 году Курское губернское земство приняло от Приказа общественного призрения «богоугодные» заведения, и среди них «больницу на 150 кроватей».

Кафедра неврологии и нейрохирургии основана в 1937 г. профессором А.И. Златоверовым, который заведовал ею до 1939 г.

В те годы кафедра именовалась кафедрой нервных болезней и располагалась в неврологическом отделении Курской областной клинической больницы. Неврологическое отделение располагало 25 койками и имело 4 палаты, процедурную и ординаторскую. Сотрудники вели и лечебно-консультативную работу.

В 1957 году неврологическое отделение и кафедра были переведены в другое здание Областной клинической больницы – «дом с колоннами», что позволило существенно увеличить площадь клинической базы.

К 1985 году неврологическое отделение и отделение реабилитации занимало два этажа корпуса на улице Садовой, нейрохирургическое отделение базировалось на территории больницы в хирургическом корпусе. В 1985 году в связи с вводом в эксплуатацию корпусов новой Областной клинической больницы на улице Сумской, 45-а, неврологическое и нейрохирургическое отделения были переведены в новые корпуса, где располагаются соответственно на 2-м и 7-м этажах 9-этажного стационара.

С 2007 года второй клинической базой кафедры стало неврологическое отделение Больницы скорой медицинской помощи.

В 2010 г. открыты отделения для лечения больных с острыми нарушениями мозгового кровообращения Регионального сосудистого центра на базе Курской областной клинической больницы и Больницы скорой медицинской помощи, что позволило внедрить инновационные методы помощи больным инсультами.

В 1995 году кафедра была переименована и в настоящее время именуется кафедрой неврологии и нейрохирургии.

THE INTERNATIONAL NEUROLOGIST'S DAY IS CELEBRATED ON THE 1TH OFDECEMBER

The first steps of Kursk neurology are associated with the formation of the Kursk Governmental National Hospital on Sadovaya Street. It is known from the history of the Kursk Territory that in 1865 the Kursk provincial zemstvo took over "charitable" institutions from the Order of Public Charity, and among them there was a "hospital for 150 beds."

The Department of Neurology and Neurosurgery was founded in 1937 by Professor A.I. Zlatoverov, who was in charge of it until 1939.

In those years, the department was called the Department of Nervous Diseases and was located in the neurological department of the Kursk Regional Clinical Hospital. The neurological department had 25 beds and had 4 wards, a procedure room and a staff room. The employees also carried out medical and consultative work.

In 1957, the neurological department and the department were transferred to another building of the Regional Clinical Hospital - a "house with columns", which made it possible to significantly increase the area of the clinical base.

By 1985, the neurological department and the rehabilitation department occupied two floors of the building on Sadovaya Street, the neurosurgical department was based on the territory of the hospital in the surgical building. In 1985, in connection with the commissioning of the buildings of the new Regional Clinical Hospital at 45 Sumskaya Street, the neurological and neurosurgical departments were transferred to new buildings, where they are located, respectively, on the 2nd and 7th floors of a 9-storey hospital.

Since 2007, the neurological department of the Emergency Hospital has become the second clinical base of the department.

In 2010, departments for the treatment of patients with acute cerebrovascular accidents were opened at the Regional Vascular Center on the basis of the Kursk Regional Clinical Hospital and the Emergency Hospital, which made it possible to introduce innovative methods of care for patients with strokes.

In 1995, the department was renamed and is currently called the Department of Neurology and Neurosurgery.
